MMSys (Multimedia Messaging Systems) offered Mobile Application Development and technical Project Management services.
Projects of note were:
Mobile Date Club - the UKs first location-based dating service on a mobile phone sold on-line and through the Carphone Warehouse in-store magazine. Users were able to get introductions to others in their local area because of mobile operator based (cell ID) location information integrated into the app. I was the lead architect and programmer on the project which was built on MySQL and PERL. Challenges of note were: integrating into the location services API, integrating into the Orange SOAP billing API (yuk), integrating real-time chat into the service (it was web delivered as mobile web pages) and making sure the user profile images were adapted dynamically for the screen capability of the phone.
Ski Cam Live - Ski Club of Great Britain live webcam view and ski conditions mobile phone service sold on-line and through the Carphone Warehouse in-store Magazine. This service, a first in the UK, took live updates from ski resort webcams all around the world and consolidated them into a single service that combined them with regular ski updates as written by the Ski Club reps. The service offered one-off or subscription billing using premium rate SMS messages. I was the architect and lead programmer on this project.
Message Centre Platform - Because of the number of text based services I had been asked to create, I decided to design and build a general purpose messaging platform capable of supporting the rapid development of text message and WAP apps. It also included built-in modules to generate mobile ready maps, locate phones on any network and send text messages including premium rate MO/MT messages to any network. The system ran two asynchronous queues, one for incoming messages and one for internal processing jobs including location checking and message sending. I was the architect and lead programmer for this project.
